Plumbing Basics - Oct.

Master Plumber demonstrates how plumbing works in a home, discusses preventative maintenance and shows you how to tackle common problems and make simple repairs.  He will show you how to install or repair faucets, repair a toilet, clear drain clogs, sweat a pipe, determine what type of piping and fittings to use for specific projects, and when to call a professional.  The class will also cover student questions and topics, and can be presented via Zoom format, if necessary. Food Preservation - Canning

Did you grow a big garden this year and are looking for ways to preserve your bounty? This workshop will teach you the steps to safe canning with a water bath canner. Participants will receive a “Preserving the Harvest” food preservation packet, and will learn recommended methods for preserving foods, the latest and safest recipes, about equipment to insure safety and how to check for properly sealed jars. Please bring a potholder with you to the workshop.

Food Preservation - Relish

Join UMaine Extension staff to learn how to turn the bounty of your fall garden or farm share into delicious relishes that you can enjoy all year long (and give out at the holidays).  Relish is a versatile way to preserve a range of vegetables and even fruits.  All of the equipment and supplies will be provided and participants will get to take home a jar of what we make in class as well as a "Preserving the Harvest" food preservation packet.

Welding - MIG II (Advanced) - Nov.

This 36-hour course is for students with prior MIG welding experience, and students who have previously taken the MIG I course. The course will cover advanced machine setup, advanced weld joint setup, and multi-pass welding in hard wire and flux core MIG.  Safety is covered in the first two sessions; math-for-industry tutorial is available. Aerial Lift Training - Nov.

Be in compliance with the changing standards by taking Veterans Safety and Health Consulting LLC’s OSHA Compliant Personal Lift certification class.  Learn how to safely and correctly operate aerial lifts and scissor lifts. There are an average of 26 construction worker fatalities each year from lift accidents, often due to operator error or negligence, amounting to as much as 3% of all construction related deaths each year. Reduce YOUR risk of injuries and fatalities with proper OSHA-compliant lift certification. Two separate sessions are offered; choose the one you prefer.  Minimum of 10 participants to make this class run.

Shrub & Tree Care - Pruning and Winterization - Nov.

Learn appropriate techniques and winter pruning for preserving your shrubs and flowering trees from the rigors of ice, wind, heavy snow, January thaw, etc. What are the best supplies for tree and shrub protection?
